OTWorld: interdisciplinary, innovative and networked worldwide

International trade show enjoys continued growth

OTWorld in Leipzig from 13 to 16 May 2014 is all about sharing knowledge across disciplines and across the world.

548 exhibitors from 37 countries will be showcasing their new products, with 260 of the exhibiting companies coming from outside Germany. The gross surface area occupied by the show has grown by five percent to 44,000m². For the first time, there are exhibitors from Finland, Australia and Mexico. The main features of the programme involve well-known and highly regarded international keynote speakers and an interdisciplinary dialogue at the highest academic level between technicians, doctors and physiotherapists. The national partner of the show this year is Russia.

In two fully-booked exhibition halls, the leading international trade show, which takes place concurrently with the World Congress, affords an overview of the latest developments in the global market for supports, aids and braces. Exhibitors from five continents will be presenting their products to a trade and professional public, and in so doing, they will be showcasing numerous innovations that have been specifically developed for presentation at OTWorld. The "Showcase Workshop" in the Technical Rehabilitation Forum, which appears again this year after its successful launch in 2012, provides an opportunity to look beyond the boundaries of ones own horizon and to examine at first hand the work of skilled craftsmen and women. Experienced and skilled technicians will be demonstrating, live, the manufacture of individual aids, from the first to the last step in the process. The audience will be able to follow the demonstrations even better on the new stage. Visitors will be able to see experienced technicians in the "Showcase Workshop" building individual, one-off rehabilitation aids. Four thematic islands are devoted to the four areas, standing, walking, resting and orthoses. The programme of stage events will be presenting modern concepts for patients treatment in an immediately understandable way with the help of practical examples.

Over 300 speakers from 30 countries will be at the World Congress to disseminate information and to discuss modern possibilities for treatments and current trends in the fields of prosthetics, orthotics, orthopaedic footwear technology, technical rehabilitation, compression therapy, lymphology and podiatry. Over the 4 days of the congress, more than 40 symposia and keynote lectures with international specialists will throw a spotlight on the latest developments in technology, science, research and practice – with the majority of them accompanied by a simultaneous translation. Among the congress highlights are seven keynote lectures, for which the organisers have been able to recruit a number of experts of considerable renown. They include, amongst others, Professor Stefano F. Cappa M.D., Professor of Cognitive Neurosciences at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Italy, and Dr. Hugh Herr, Associate Professor of Media Arts and Sciences, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA.

Orthopaedic footwear technology and podiatry are recurrent themes throughout the congress programme at OTWorld, demonstrating just how highly specialised these disciplines have become in the last few decades. The topic is strongly represented in the exhibition too, with 190 exhibitors from 24 countries offering products for orthopaedic shoemakers and podiatrists. As a result of the active help received from the most important partner in the field of orthopaedic footwear technology, the German Association of Orthopaedic Footwear Technology (Zentralverband Orthopädieschuhtechnik ZVOS), it has been possible to offer visitors a broad palette of events and products.

For the first time, Russia will be the national partner of OTWorld and, with 14 Russian exhibitors, this will be the largest Russian participation in the event to date. With its booming market, in particular for orthopaedic footwear technology, Russia offers enormous potential and development opportunities for exhibitors at OTWorld. There is, for the first time, a joint stand from the Russian Federation. Grouped together, these constantly growing companies will be presenting their products and services here in a homogeneous design setting.  Moreover, further information-giving events for the Russian market are already in the pipeline.
